Comparing IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) Success Rates

Patients considering In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) will want to find a clinic in their area with superior success rates. Many will search the internet for terms such as “In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in Phoenix” or “In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in Scottsdale” to learn about local clinics. However, not all clinics publish their success rates on their website.

According to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies, comparisons between clinics must be made with caution.

Many times you may not be comparing apples to apples. Some clinics may be more willing than others to accept patients with low chances of success or may specialize in various Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatments that attract particular types of patients. No reported success rate is absolute.

Some clinics see more than the average number of patients with difficult infertility problems. Some clinics are willing to offer IVF to most potential users, including those who have a low probability of success. Others discourage or disqualify such patients, pushing them toward donor eggs instead. Clinics that accept a higher percentage of women with prior unsuccessful IVF cycles may also appear to have lower success rates. In contrast, clinics that perform a disproportionate number of IVF cycles for good prognosis patients who might have become pregnant without IVF may appear to have better statistics.
